GMOs ADDED RISKS

GMOs ADDED RISKs

Image for GMOs added risks   [trx_dropcaps style="3"]W[/trx_dropcaps]ith the promotion of GMO by chemical, fertilizer and pesticide companies there are GMOs added risks to human health. Since the mid-nineteenth century, the food industry in America has relentlessly altered the food chain to be more productive, efficient and profitable.  If the advances in this field is driven by improving our food source alone, it  could be called the Age of Enrichment, but it doesn't stop there.   Is it possible that  experimentation with the nutrients in our food without transparency is an ethical issue? Is messing with the basic structure of nutrients causing our cells not function properly?  Is it reasonable to think that the granola-munchers of the 60s were right: there is an impact on human health?   Let take a look at GMOs added risks. More elaborate processes continue with the addition of high tech food processing, enhanced coloring agents, and additives (such as MSG and BHT.  At each step, consumers have railed against these additions, and were always calmed by the food industry. They told us that these improvements had no negative impact on human health. We’ve seen them change the food livestock eat to make them plumper and tastier and then they added hormones  to supposedly make them healthier. We do know that they keep livestock, our food source, confined from birth until slaughter which is not only cruel, but it generates faster spreading of disease.   Plant alterations, increasing pesticide use, and, most recently, genetic modification within and across species is an everyday phenomenon. The practice of feeding cows, which are herbivores, feed that contained parts from other cows led to the creation of a disease called Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as Mad Cow disease. We are not claiming that the practice of GMO had anything to do with BSE. What we are saying is that this action was driven by a desire to produce meat fast and cheap.   More importantly, there was no oversight by the government agency entrusted to protect its population from such things happening. Granted, this disaster happened in the UK. Over here, the agency that should be watching over our food source relies heavily on the producer's to keep watch over themselves. Still more important for us to understand is that the licenses are patent protected. Curiously, companies cannot protect what nature produces. They can, however, protect lab experiments, the genetic coding of the seeds that result from DNA splicing and copyrighted formulas as intellectual property. Herein, lies the problem.   There is a great slogan from The Men's Warehouse, "An Educated Consumer is Our Best Customer." We are not so certain the same rings true for GMO products. An educated consumer would not feed her family food of which she cannot trace the source. An educated food consumer wouldn't be a good customer for GMO food producers. The problem we face, is that we can't trace the origins of our food with certainty. There is a murky screen of corporate secret protected by our government that hides whether or not our food has been genetically modified. We cannot pierce the veil because there is no FDA requirement that companies tell us how our food is cultivated. This is GMOs added risks to human health.   We shop for food for many reasons. Among those reasons is of course hunger, our body's way of telling us it needs nutrition. However, we trust that the food we purchase is not only safe, but that that food is nutritious. What we are discovering is we that have to be vigilant about what we buy and consume. Otherwise we don't get the nutrition that we need; and/or we get less than the full amount, or the addition of some substance our bodies cannot digest.   It is basic knowledge that an accumulation/build-up over time of bad elements leads to disease, organ failure, and body systems shut down. The body is a very efficient mechanism and it works harder if it has to clear itself of foreign agents. Functioning constantly at a high level imposes a tax on the systems and parts that eventually lead to breakdown. Think about any system in which you put something that doesn't belong in it: the wrong toner in your printer, unleaded gas instead of leaded gas in the car, hard water in place of soft water in a steam iron, etc. You get the picture.   Luckily for us many smart people are discovering how to spot GMO additives in food in the supermarket by reading labels. What we need to look for is, does the producer say up front that they are non-GMO. Is there a seal  on the label that the product is Non-GMO  Certified? Does it contain Soy or HIgh Fructose Corn Syrup? Is it organic? Is it live food that hasn't been processed, pasteurized, irradiated or has any sort of substitute for natural minerals? Ask yourself if you can you trace the source of your food.
