Eau de Agua
Your body needs water to get rid of toxins and to keep your system flexible, lubricated and running smoothly. Did you know that being even slightly dehydrated can have a significant impact on your mood, energy levels and mental performance? But many of us don’t stay hydrated throughout the day, and may not think about drinking water until we feel thirsty. When we get that signal from our brain that we are thirsty, we are already on the road to dehydration! In fact by the time we are 1% dehydrated we begin to feel the effects on our body. The human body is composed of 70% water, of which 90% is composed in the blood stream. As we become dehydrated, even as little as 1%, our blood begins to thicken due to loss of moisture, causing profound fatigue. Naturally, if we stay properly hydrated throughout the day, our body is able to maintain the hydration level it needs to function correctly. So how can you tell if you are dehydrated? Our bodies are very good at letting us know what it needs, if you find that you are using a lot of moisturizers to combat dryness, if you have a concentrated taste in your mouth, or dry or murky eyes; your body is telling you that you need hydration! A good indication of proper hydration and that the blood is flowing smoothly through your system is turgor or fullness in the veins on the back of the hand. Your veins should be more pronounced or stand up as you lower your hands below your heart and should be less pronounced as you raise your hands slightly above your heart. However, staying hydrated means more than taking in more water, as we take in more water we also tend to eliminate as much as we take in. So the question becomes, how do we hold on to some of this water in order to stay properly hydrated? Stay tuned for how to rehydrate!
